MARGAO: With the rise in incidents of overflowing sewage chambers in Margao and surrounding areas, the residents have expressed fear of major health hazards, as the sewage water is getting mixed with the rain water.
Speaking to mediapersons, Colmorod locals demanded that the Sewerage Department (SD) should take this issue on a top priority and come out with a permanent solution.
It has been noticed that these days during the rains, sewage chambers are overflowing at several places such as Colmorod, Ring Road area, Madel etc, resulting in stink and sewage water getting mixed with the rain water flowing into the drains, open fields and on the roads.
Colmorod locals called upon the SD to inspect the overflowing sewage chambers at Colmorod. Residents explained to Assistant Engineer of SD Rosy Borges the immense hardships they face on account of the overflowing sewage.
Flavia Barros said that a permanent solution to stop the overflowing of sewage chambers is the need of the hour. “Sewage chambers over here are overflowing during the monsoon and posing risks to the children passing by, besides leading towards major health hazards in the locality,” she stated.
Savio Coutinho demanded that the department should on a priority find a permanent solution to this problem.
He informed that the sewage fountains are seen at three locations in the wards viz on the four-lane main road, near Gomati Building and behind ESI Hospital.
“The hardship caused due to the overflowing sewage is not limited to foul stench only, but poses a serious problem to many passersby, who get splashed with sewage by the moving vehicles,” he stated.
