The protests are a part of the pan India demonstration and agitation, which were held on Thursday in several states across the country.
The protests were aimed to attract government attention to the problems of the seafarers. There are over 20,000 registered retired seafarers all over India, who took to the streets and held demonstrations across the country.
Retired seafarers of West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Goa, Maharashtra and other states took part in the protests. They sought information on cash deductions and demanded a minimum pension of Rs 5,000. They also objected to the deduction of 300 dollars and also demanded the closure of all the Government Trusts.
