PANJIM: In a step towards withdrawal of controversial amendment to the Goa Agriculture Tenancy Act, the State Revenue Department has moved a proposal to the government seeking transfer of tenancy cases back to Mamlatdars from district court.
“The file seeking withdrawal of the third amendment to the Act has been forwarded to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. It proposes handling over tenancy dispute cases back to mamlatdars, from courts,” an official said.
The government in 2014 had introduced an amendment to the Tenancy Act transferring all tenancy related cases to the district court. As many as 5000 such cases were transferred to the courts. This was opposed by the tenants association and also political parties. The Manohar Parrikar government had promised to withdraw the amendment.
