Condemning the government’s failure to release payments amounting to a whopping of Rs 80 crore, The All Goa Road Contractors Association has decided to boycott all work from Monday if payment are not released by then.
Association President, Subhash Desai condemned the government’s attitude for not releasing the payment of contractors for more than six months. He said the government owes the contractors payments amounting to Rs 80 crore, adding that the payments have not been done till date despite promises by Chief Minister Digambar Kamat to release Rs 55 crore.
“Till date, no cash assignment has come. We are waiting for the government to honour its promise”, he said.
What has upset the contractors is the fact that PWD engineers continue to float fresh tenders on the directions of MLAs and ministers despite knowing the facts.
The contractors have also condemned ex-director Shripad Naik for all the mess, and alleged that Naik continues to control the allotment of funds as well as the cash assignment even after retirement.
While condemning the Jt Director of Accounts, Lotlikar for not releasing the cash assignments in time, causing harassment to the contractors, Association president said the contractors have now decided to hold a meeting on September 6 at 11 am at the PWD complex, Fatorda to chalk out the future course of action.
“The contractors are determined to boycott the tenders till the government releases their payments”, Desai asserted and urged the government to release their pending payments worth Rs 80 crore.
