With potholes at many places, the roads in Chimbel have already been giving motorists a tough time in the village.
Now to make matters worse for residents living along this stretch, the electricity department has dug a portion of the main road for over a 2-km stretch and has left it un-repaired for over a month.
Speaking to Herald, former panch Raju Kambli said that the road was dug from the NH4A bypass junction right up to the panchayat area, to lay underground cables by the Electricity Department.
“Now, it’s been more than a month since the work of laying cables was completed, but the road has not been repaired, due to which dust pollution is giving a headache to the locals,” Kambli said.
“Whenever vehicles pass by, it leaves behind a trail of dust which enters the houses and the shops, making life difficult for the locals, mostly the senior citizens,” he added.
“Earlier, the width of this main road was around only four metres, which has now been further reduced to about 2.5 metres due to the digging work. It leads to constant traffic problems along this stretch, particularly during peak hours.”
Kambli urged the officials concerned to immediately repair the road and alleviate the sufferings of the people.
When contacted, Assistant Engineer Bandekar informed that the electricity department undertook the digging work on an urgent basis.
“As such, an NOC was not applied for from the PWD. I have inspected the area and have directed the contractor to remove the mud that has come along the road,” said Bandekar.
“It will take some time to repair the road. We will ask the contractor to undertake repairs of the road and if he doesn’t agree, the PWD will be approached to repair the road after paying the necessary fees,” Bandekar stated.
