Salcete, Sattari and Bicholim lead in unopposed candidates winning before single vote is cast

The counting of votes will take place on August 12

PANJIM: As many as 31 candidates have been declared elected unopposed for the 186 village panchayat elections scheduled on August 10.

The Salcete taluka comprising 33 village panchayats, saw nine candidates getting elected unopposed followed by six candidates in Sattari taluka, five in Bicholim, three each in Bardez and Tiswadi, two each in Quepem and Pernem and one in Canacona taluka.

In the seven-member Chandor-Cavorim Village Panchayat in Salcete taluka and Nadora Panchayat in Bardez taluka, three candidates each were declared elected unopposed.

The nine candidates elected unopposed from Salcete taluka are Anjela Dourado (Seraulim ward 5), Xavier Wencey Pereira (Cana-Benaulim ward 8), Dileshwar Naik (Nagoa ward 2), Josephina Rock Fernandes (Ambelim ward 7), Michel D’Souza (Macazana ward 6), Simon Fernandes (Velim ward 4) and Esterphino Dias (ward 4), Maria Sequeira (ward 5) and Hipolito Dias (ward 6), all from Chandor-Cavorim Village Panchayat. 

In Bardez taluka, former Salvador do Mundo sarpanch Sandeep Salgaonkar (ward 2) and former deputy sarpanch Reena Fernandes (ward 3) were declared elected unopposed. This will be their second term as panchayat members and both were backed by Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte.

Also three-time sarpanch Madhura Madhu Mandrekar was elected unopposed from ward 4 of Nadora Village Panchayat.

This will be her sixth term as a Panchayat member.

Paresh Dayanand Gawas (ward 3) and Rama Narayan Nadodkar (ward 5) from Nadora Village Panchayat were declared elected unopposed.

Sanjeeta Bhonsle was elected unopposed from ward 9 of Reis Magos Village Panchayat. She was supported by Saligao Congress MLA Kedar Naik.

The six candidates declared elected from Rajeshri Jalmi (ward 5) of Pissurlem Village Panchayat, Sarita Gaonkar (ward 4) of  Dongurli-Thane Village Panchayat, Somnath Kale (ward 7)of  Mauxi Village Panchayat, Udaysingh Rane (ward 4) of Bhironda Village Panchayat, Shivaj Desai (ward 3) of Sanvordem Village Panchayat and Akshita Gaude (ward 1) of Guleli Village Panchayat.

The five candidates elected unopposed from Bicholim

Taluka as Gitesh Gadekar (ward 1) of Advalpal Village Panchayat, Divya Naik (ward 8) of Karapur-Sarvan Village Panchayat, Chetan Khodaginkar (ward 3) of Pilgao Village Panchayat, Krishna Arolkar (ward 1) of Latambarcem Village Panchayat and Suvarna Chodankar (ward 11) of Mayem Village Panchayat.

In Tiswadi taluka, Mazel Agatha Larinao Lucas (ward 7) of Batim Village Panchayat, Sejal Subhash Narvekar (ward 9) of Cumbarjua Village Panchayat and Ajay Tari (ward 5) of St Estevam Village Panchayat were declared elected unopposed.

In Pernem taluka, Prarthana Prabhakar Mote was declared elected unopposed from ward 3 of Torxem Village Panchayat and Disha Gopinath Halarnkar was elected unopposed ward 3 of Ibrampur-Hankhane Village Panchayat.

 In Quepem taluka, two women candidates were declared elected unopposed. They are Anju Malu Velip (ward 7) of Balli Village Panchayat and Vidhi Vinod Velip (ward 6) of Cavrem-Pirla Village Panchayat.

In Canacona taluka, Sunil Shreedhar Painguinkar was the lone candidate who was declared elected unopposed from ward 4 of Poinguinim Village Panchayat.
