PORVORIM: Residents of Salvador-do-Mundo are expected to take part in a silent protest march from the Church of Salvador-do-Mundo on February 26 at 9.30 am, to protest against the inspection of private lands carried out as per the disputed ‘natural cover’ in the RPG 2021.
In a joint statement, the village committee Chairperson Dr Meenacshi Martins, Vice-Chairperson Aniceto Pinto and Secretary Anselm Fernandes stated that the RPG 2021 was opposed and rejected at the gram sabha in the drafting stage itself.
“However, the final notified plan shows wrong zoning of agricultural and settlement lands belonging to the native gaonkars of the village. The village had elected a committee to coordinate the activities of the inspection teams and had approached the chief minister to stop police from entering their lands as per the NGT order, as none of them had violated any laws and have been most cooperative with the team inspecting the lands in the village,” they stated
“The police force deployed to protect the forest committees for identification of private forest, have since been pulled out. The inspections are going on with effect from December 4, 2013
