VASCO: Newly-elected Sancoale Sarpanch Ramakant Borkar said the panchayat was against the shifting of casinos to Zuari River.
He added that the local body would soon put the issue before the villagers and adopt a resolution against the government’s move.
He stated, “I don’t understand why the government is trying our patience every now and then by raising issues like marina, ODP and now casinos. I feel they are trying to keep us busy all the time. Still, Sancoalekars are fighters. The panchayat and villagers will ensure that casinos are never shifted to our neighbourhood as the same will have a negative impact on the youth.”
“We are against the marina, and the same decision will continue even now. Similarly, we are still opposing any move to include Sancoale in Vasco Planning Area. Having casinos in the neighbourhood is out of the question, ”he added.
We have decided to support Cortalim Panchayat on their stand in this issue.”
Regarding the sour relation between the Sancoale panchayat and local MLA and Environment Minister Alina Saldanha, Borkar stated that such a relationship is unhealthy and that he would make the first move to patch things up with the MLA. Thereafter all pending development in the village could be taken up with her help.
“Since last year, our panchayat is anxiously waiting to see development. The tarring of roads, the garbage issue and other infrastructure development projects are pending, and thus, I have decided to make the first move by meeting the local MLA. If required I will meet even our former MLA and present Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho to see that Sancoale come backs on the track of development,” said Borkar, who was unanimously elected as sarpanch on Friday.
