MARGAO: The indoor badminton stadium and the multipurpose ground in Sanguem need urgent attention as water has started to leak through the stadium’s roof, while the ground is in a bad shape.
On Friday, sportspersons complained that they had to place buckets on the floor of the court to collect water falling from the roof. They also complained that the court was not conducive for games as water had seeped in from several places.
Sportspersons also complained about the condition of the ground, which is used for cricket and football, among other sports. Incidentally, the ground will be used for the National Games 2016.
Sanguem MLA Subhash Phaldessai responded to complaints by stating that the issue had been raised at the Assembly and the fault lies with Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar as the ground is under the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG).
The sportspersons also stated that several complaints had been made in the last three years, and while Phase 1 of the renovation works had been completed, the tenders for the remaining work is kept on hold for over a year.
