VASCO: The Parish Youth of Our Lady of Candelaria Church at Baina celebrated Sao Joao festival with a difference, by organising games for small children besides and having Kopel (Sao Joao crowns) making competitions.

The youth also conducted Biblical skits and songs by small children, besides other games for the elders.

Parish Priest of Our Lady of Candelaria Church at Baina Fr Vital Miranda justified the decision to celebrate Sao Joao by organising games and other entertainment programs, instead of following the age-old tradition of jumping in the well.

“When St John baptised Jesus, they did not celebrate by drinking liquor and by jumping in the wells. We wanted to project the correct message of Sao Joao to our youth, so that they do not follow what others are celebrating at present,” said Fr Miranda.
