“I write this to you about opening of a passport branch office in Margao, South Goa. As you are aware, the Regional Passport Office at Panjim is always under tremendous pressure. Further, people living in remote areas of South Goa district such as Canacona, Quepem, Sanguem and Cuncolim have to travel a long distance to avail the facilities. Therefore opening a passport branch office in Margao, South Goa will go a long way in mitigating the problems of the people living in remote areas of the State,” said Sawaiakar
He added that the Chief Minister of Goa Laxmikant Parsekar has taken up the matter with the external affairs minister for which Sawaikar added that the chief minister had already offered the required premised and enclosed the copy of the letter from the chief minister dated June 15, 2015
“In view of the above and the fact that South Goa being my constituency I am personally well aware of the problem being faced by the people of South Goa I would request you to bestow your personal attention in the matter and direct the concerned authorities to do the needful. An early decision in the matter is solicited.
Incidentally Navelim MLA and Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado had announced the government’s decision and approval to host the Margao passport office at the collectorate building on Goa Revolution Day. On Wednesday, Deputy Chief Minister Francisco D’Souza stated that the government had even extended an invitation to the external affairs minister to inaugurate the new regional passport office.
