Govt not in favour of Goans: Fr Eremito

MARGAO: Asserting that BJP candidate Narendra Sawaikar has not attended the Lohia Maidan meeting since the BJP is supporting Mopa, Goans for Dabolim Only (GFDO) convenor Fr Eremito Rebello lambasted Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar saying the Parrikar-led government does not deserve to continue in office and that it’s not in favour of Goans.
Asserting government is running on thin air, Fr Eremito said, “On one hand, Parrikar says that the Navy is a necessity of the nation. His Cabinet colleague Alina Saldanha says at Cansaulim that the Navy should be out of Goa. We do not understand the government stand on the airport.”
He termed as a big lie Parrikar’s claim Dabolim will be saturated by 2017, saying Dabolim can handle traffic for the next 40 years. “He may be an IITian, but we are not fools. This is his psychological problem,” Fr Eremito said.
Questioning the schemes launched by the government in recent times by raising taxes, Fr Eremito said this government does not deserve to continue in office.
On claims that some candidates are using his name to drum up support for their candidature, Fr Eremito cautioned that he has not declared his support to any of the candidates and urged vested interests not to abuse his name. “People of Goa know who are in favour of Mopa and those against,” he said.
The crowd roared with a firm ‘No’ when Fr Eremito asked the people whether they would vote for the ruling party candidate, Narendra Sawaikar, who did not turn up for the meeting, and whose party is openly supporting Mopa airport.
He later told the media that the GFDO would continue its agitation and would force the new MPs to join the fight in scrapping Mopa airport.
The meeting was largely attended. Goa Vikas Party supremo Mickky Pacheco, Independent MLA Vijai Sardesai, South Goa ZP chairperson Nelly Rodrigues and others attended the meeting.
