BICHOLIM: Expressing happiness over BJP’s victory at the Centre, Sanquelim MLA Dr Pramod Sawant stated that they will demand with the Centre and the Supreme Court to increase the mining extraction quota from 20 million tons to 40 million tons.
Speaking to Herald, Dr Sawant said in all the mining constituencies, people kept faith in Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and the BJP by voting for the party.
“We will demand with the Centre to start legal mining in the State as soon as possible. Seventy-five per cent of Goans are dependent on mining and we should not be compared with other states where mining is going on in just one or two districts,” said Dr Sawant.
“We also plan to demand increase in ore extraction from 20 to 40 million tons per year, for which we will approach the Centre and if necessary the SC committee,” he added.
Dr Sawant said with the help of the chief minister, they will also focus on skilled development and human development for getting most of the Central schemes to the State.
