Keeping in mind the tragic cases of the past or even for that matter the latest case of a seven-year-old boy found murdered in Ryan International School, Delhi, schools from Goa are not taking any chances and have adopted strict security measures to put a curb on such incidents.
A couple of years ago, schools used to have minimum security with teachers, administrators and a single security guard would monitor the situation but now with the number of schools increasing, such methods have become extinct.
As team Herald visited the Cujira Integrated School Complex, a complete change was visible. It was very evident that schools located in the complex have put in place strict measures to avoid such criminal acts.
As our team entered the integrated school complex, it was revealed that as soon as the students entered the school premises, the main gate would be locked and no one would be allowed to enter inside the premises except for parents of those students and other school/college officials.
Further it was also seen that the security guard present at the main would asks the person who wants to enter where he / she wants to go. A separate register is maintained in which the entry is noted down by filling the relevant details.
It was further revealed that a meeting on the security issues was conducted with officers of the schools along with Directorate of Education (DoE) officials in which it was discussed that strict security measures needed to be adopted.
Speaking to Herald, DoE Director, G P Bhat, said: “Since the 2013 incident, the department has taken consistent security steps to protect the students. We have also instructed headmasters of all schools to strictly follow the security steps to prevent any such kind of incidents.”
It may be recalled that in 2013 a girl was raped in a school in Vasco.
“Children of parents are also my children and it is my topmost priority to protect the students. Now at Cujira there was a meeting on security under which various aspects were seen related to security of the students and accordingly we have issued different circulars to the schools across Goa related to safety and have asked the schools to follow the measures on a regular basis,” added Bhat.
Many schools are limiting access to their premises by locking all unmonitored entrances and requiring all the visitors to the school to check in with the security guard at the main gate.
