MARGAO: In meetings held with the National Union Seafarers of India (NUSI) and Maritime Union of India (MUI), the Goa Seamen Association of India (GSAI) appealed to the two important unions to look into the issues faced by the seafarer community in Goa.
GSAI President Frank Viegas met the General Secretary of MUI, Captain Tushar Pradhan, and the General Secretary cum Treasurer of NUSI, Milind Kandalgaonkar, along with the office bearers. They held discussions about the steps needed to be taken immediately for the betterment of Goan seafarers’ community.

“Our main issue is that the identity and future of the seafarers are protected and that the retired seafarers and their families get the welfare benefits. With ports being privatised, we need to ensure that our seafarer community gets what is due to them. We have asked them to walk the talk as we need to see the results on the ground,” Viegas stated.
