PANJIM: The Central Bureau of Investigation Thursday conducted searches at Mumbai, Ambarnath in Thane district, in connection with the case of the Central excise officer from Bicholim who was trapped while accepting a bribe from a company.

A two-day remand has been obtained after the accused was produced before the court, even as a bail application has been filed by him.

The Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a central excise officer while accepting a bribe on Wednesday after a trap was laid by CBI’s Nilesh Shirodkar and his team. The trap was laid after the officer allegedly demanded Rs 5000 per month from a company.

Acting on a complaint, officials laid a trap and caught the Central Excise Inspector Nilesh Thakur red handed while accepting the bribe in Bicholim. Later his residence at Bicholim was searched and some liquor bottles were seized.
