Seats reserved for poor in professional courses

PANJIM: As the State government orders implementation of 10 per cent quota for the economically weaker section (EWS) in government jobs and education, the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) has announced the reservation for professional courses. 
DTE said it will have seats reserved for EWS, in all degree and diploma courses, during the General Category admission rounds, scheduled from July 4.
The first round of admissions for professional courses has already ended. In all 2,029 students applied for engineering seats in Goa, while over 3500 registered for Pharmacy. 
DTE said the government has approved implementation of reservation for EWS in admissions to professional courses both in diploma and degree. 
 “These seats can be availed by candidates not covered under scheme of reservation for SCs, STs and OBCs, and whose family has gross annual income below Rs 8 lakh,” the department said. 
The applicants, wishing to avail these EWS seats, during the General Category admission rounds are directed to produce Income and Assets Certificate in specified format, issued by Mamlatdar of concerned taluka, during the admission rounds.
DTE said the exact number of seats under EWS, would be announced at the time of admissions.
