PORVORIM: Anacleto Martins, Agnelo Lobo and Alex Pereira have been elected unopposed as the president, attorney and treasurer of Serula comunidade, respectively, for a three-year period of 2016-2019. Agnelo D’Souza de Rosario, Florencio Sequeira and Diniz D’Souza have been elected unopposed as substitute president, attorney and treasurer respectively. The election was held on Sunday at the Gadge Maharaj Hall, Porvorim.
Addressing the press, Presiding Officer Ravishekar Niparnikar stated that as per a notice given by the collector in an official government gazette dated November 19, the meeting was convened to elect the new managing committee of Serula comunidade.
He further stated that 236 ‘components’ attended the meeting and the names of the six candidates who had filed their nominations for the post of effective and substitute presidents, attorneys and treasurers were read out to them. Since there was no opposition, the candidates were declared elected unopposed.
Niparniker added that component Wilber Ticlo had raised an objection about the voter list, but on summary hearing, the same was dismissed on grounds that the voter list had been prepared after following due procedure.
Meanwhile, Uric Mascarenhas complained that the presiding officer had refused to accept his nomination. He stated that he had gone to file his nomination for the post of attorney on December 12 at 10.30 am; nominations could be filed from 10.30 am to 12 pm.
He claimed that Niparniker had come to the office only at 11 am, but by that time, the person who had come with Mascarenhas to second his nomination left for urgent work, due to which Mascarenhas could not file his nomination on time.
He added that Niparniker refused to accept his nomination after 12 pm.
