MARGAO: The South Goa Planning and Development Authority has ordered the demolition of the compound wall and other illegal development in the Osia Commercial complex in the SGPDA complex within 31 days.
A notice under section 52 of the Town and Country Planning Act has been served on Swapna Developers on Wednesday. While directing the builder to remove and demolish the illegal development within 31 days from the receipt of the notice, the PDA Member secretary has said that failure on the part of the builder would compel the Authority to demolish the development and recover the cost from him.
The action follows a complaint lodged by Roque Pinto, President of GOAMAR citing a host of alleged illegalities, including construction of compound walls along the roads on north, south, east and west of the property, alleged conversion of lift block in between block D & E into shops/offices with rolling shutters, besides conversion of passages into commercial use.
The reply filed by the builder was placed before the PDA meeting and it was found that approval as required under section 44 was not obtained for construction of compound wall and change in use of lifts etc.
The issue had figured in the Legislative Assembly earlier this year, wherein the government had admitted certain illegalities in the commercial complex.
