TIVIM: The Siolim Parish Youth, in a bid to make the village garbage and plastic free, have decided to create awareness about garbage including plastic in the village.
The youth have expressed their willingness to conduct an awareness rally in Siolim requesting people to segregate garbage at source so that its disposal becomes easy.
The Siolim Parish Youth with support and guidance of youth coordinator and Assistant Parish Priest Fr Alex D’Souza on Tuesday called a meeting with members of ‘My Siolim – The Environment and Heritage Action Club’ represented by Gregory D’Souza, Lawrence Braganza and Victor Fernandes. Environmentalis and social worker Leo Dias was the special invitee.
Dias claimed that despite conducting plastic collection drive in Goa for many years, the State government did not helped him and he had to suspend the drive and limit it to Siolim as he was committed towards a clean and green environment.
Fr D’Souza appreciated the good work done by Dias in Siolim and sought his guidance to educate youth, who are interested in keeping Siolim clean and plastic free. It was also decided to conduct a workshop in March, where youth will go in the village creating awareness about a clean and green Siolim.
and also request and educate people to segregate their garbage, especially non-disposable items at source so that their collection becomes easy.
Fr D’Souza appreciated the ‘mission’ on which the Siolim youth have embarked and said he too will support them to ensure that Siolim becomes free from non-disposable garbage.
