PANJIM: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) is set to file an indictment against former minister Joaquim Alemao, and Salgaonkar brothers – Sameer and Arjun on Wednesday in connection with illegal mining case.
Former mining baron and ex-Independent legislator Anil Salgaonkar, who was also being investigated for the crime, had breathed his last this January. The Chairman and Managing Director of Salgaoncar Mining Industries was undergoing treatment in a Singapore hospital for an ailment since last few months.
The SIT in September 2014 had registered a criminal offence against the accused.
The case pertains to a complaint filed by Mines Director Prasanna Acharya accusing Kantilal and Co Ltd of carrying out mining and ore extraction without requisite permissions. The allegations were supported by a monitoring committee report.
in the year 2009. The mining lease at Sanguem had Alemao as the raising contractor. Alemao and the brothers were quizzed several times by the SIT.
