Shiv Sena (UBT) appeared headed for another major setback on Monday after Maharashtra minister Pratap Sarnaik claimed that six Lok Sabha MPs from the Uddhav Thackeray-led faction were set to join the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena.
According to Sarnaik, the MPs had already submitted a letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker informing her of their decision. If the switch materialises, Shiv Sena’s strength in the Lok Sabha will rise from seven MPs to 13, significantly strengthening the Shinde camp.

The development comes amid growing speculation of unrest within the Uddhav Thackeray-led party. MPs Omraje Nimbalkar and Nagesh Patil Ashtikar have already confirmed their departure from Shiv Sena (UBT), while reports suggest several others are also considering a similar move.
Sarnaik described the development as part of Shiv Sena’s “Operation Tiger”, claiming that the MPs were choosing to align with the ideology of party founder Balasaheb Thackeray. Shiv Sena MLC Manisha Kayande stopped short of confirming the defections but hinted that “good news” was on the way for the Shinde faction.
The reported rebellion follows the absence of several MPs from a recent parliamentary party meeting, fuelling speculation about a split. Among those reportedly considering a switch are MPs from Yavatmal-Washim, Hingoli, Parbhani, Shirdi and Mumbai North East.
Reacting sharply, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray challenged the rebel MPs to resign and contest fresh elections under their new banner.
“Those deserting the party should resign from their posts and prove their strength before the people,” he said.
Meanwhile, Uddhav Thackeray is preparing to launch a statewide outreach campaign beginning June 27, visiting constituencies represented by the MPs facing defection rumours.
In a video message, Nagesh Patil Ashtikar cited a “lack of trust” and harsh criticism from party leaders as the primary reasons behind his decision to leave the UBT camp.
