PANJIM: The Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) is likely to postpone their scheduled cycling event in Panjim from September 13 to October 2, in view of rising COVID-19 cases in the capital city and surrounding areas.

The decision was taken after the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) Mayor Uday Madkaikar moved a note to IPSCDL requesting postponement of the event, which is to be held from Ribandar to Dona Paula on every Sunday from September 13, to promote cycling in the City.
“In view of rising cases, we are likely to consider the request of CCP and postpone the event,” IPSCDL sources said.
Earlier in the day, Panjim Mayor Madkaikar moved a note to IPSCDL stating that taking into account the fact that COVID-19 cases are rising sharply within the city and to further avoid the cyclists, who will be participating in large numbers, from getting infected, it is requested to postpone the event and commence it from October 2 being Gandhi Jayanti and thereafter every Sunday, as proposed.
“In order to exercise absolute caution against the pandemic, IPSCDL is requested to postpone the event with immediate effect,” he said.
Panjim on Tuesday reported 28 new Coronavirus cases; with active patients being above 230; and has also been witnessing surge in cases in areas like St Inez, Mala, Bhatlem, Altinho, Caranzalem, Ribandar, etc, over the last month.
