Sonsodo yard wall collapses

A portion of the compound wall of the Sonsodo dump yard, besides two houses at Majorda and Utorda collapsed on Tuesday due to heavy rains.
The compound wall built by the Margao Municipal council caved in today, but unlike in the past, garbage did not flow onto the Curtorim-Margao road.
MMC Chairperson Savio Coutinho said the wall was construction way back in 1998, adding that the civic body would repair the wall at the earliest.
Meanwhile, two houses collapsed at Utorda and Majorda today, even as the fire services were literally on their toes on Tuesday, to clear uprooted trees lying on the roads.
Till late this evening, the fire men were on the field, attending to the calls for clearance of trees from the road.
