PANJIM: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday alleged that the defamation case filed against its leader Sanjay Singh is aimed at diverting his attention from the election campaign in Delhi.

Addressing a press conference at the party office in the city, AAP Goa Vice President Valmiki Naik said, ” Assembly elections in Delhi are likely to be held either in January or February and the poll fever is going to reach its peak and Sanjay Singh is among the top three star campaigners. The BJP is trying to waste his time and stop him from campaigning by framing him in the case.”
“The statement was made in Delhi, Sanjay Singh resides in Delhi but a suit has been filed at a court in Bicholim. This only shows that BJP is trying to waste Singh’s time by bringing him to Goa,” he said.
Valmiki Naik also claimed that the defamation case has been filed also to divert attention of the people from the case of Siddiqui alias Suleman Khan who is still on the run after escaping from the Crime Branch lockup.
“Filing defamation cases is a speciality of the Bharatiya Janata Party because they cannot handle the truth. They try to silence those who speak the truth. Even they tried to attack the wife of Arvind Kejriwal but they could not succeed,” the AAP leader said.
The war of words between the ruling BJP and the Opposition AAP over the cash-for-jobs scam came to a flashpoint on Tuesday, December 17 with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s wife Sulakshana Sawant filing a Rs 100 crore defamation case against AAP MP Sanjay Singh in the Bicholim Civil Court for allegedly making baseless allegations against her. Singh has been asked to appear before the Court on January 10, 2025.
