PANJIM: Town and Country Planning (TCP) Department’s five-member inquiry committee on Thursday decided to issue notices to the convenors and other speakers of the public meeting held at Lohia Maidan on April 27, seeking specific details with documents into the allegations levied by them about illegal land conversions by 14 politicians.
The meeting, attended by thousands of people, was convened by Goencho Avaaz.
The notice will direct the convenors of Goencho Avaaz to submit the allegations in writing regarding “illegalities” by politicians, individuals and institutions on the issue of conversion or change of zone in the guise of Regional Plan 2021, on or before May 11.
“Allegations required to be substantiated by necessary documentary evidences for scrutiny by the Committee,” the committee resolved.
On receipts of details from Goencho Avaaz, the Committee will conduct necessary study and take appropriate decisions, case wise, and submit its report to the government for necessary action.
The scope of the committee is limited only to the areas under the Regional Plan and not under the Outline Development Plans (ODPs). The next meeting of the committee is fixed on May 16.
The committee comprising Institute of Town Planners, India (ITPI) member Venancio Fernandes, Institute of Engineers, India (IEI) members Ernesto Moniz and Paresh Gaitonde, Indian Institute of Architects, Goa Chapter chairman Manguesh Prabhugaonkar and Chief Town Planner Rajesh Naik, held its first meeting on Thursday. It has to submit its report by June 1.
The Goencho Avaaz meeting had revealed names of 14 politicians including TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar, Former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, Former Forest Minister Alina Saldanha, MLAs Luizinho Faleiro, Nilesh Cabral, Glen Ticlo, Francis Silveria amongst others.
