In a shocking incident, a minor boy of 14 years allegedly raped a 8-year old girl in the remote village of Barcem in Quepem taluka.
Acting swiftly on a complaint lodged by the girl’s mother, Cuncolim Police station incharge PI Nelson Albuquerque registered a case of rape against the youngster before arresting him on late Monday night. Both the accused and the victim girl were later sent for medical examination to the Goa medical college and hospital, Bambolim.
PI Albuquerque said the boy has been arrested for rape and under the Goa Children’s Act and will be sent to the Apna Ghar.
The incident came to light when the mother took the girl to the Canacona hospital after the victim complained of bleeding. Medical examination of the girl revealed that she sustained an abrasion on the outer part of her private party and reported the matter to the Canacona police.
The matter was finally reported to the Cuncolim police this evening since the incident occurred in Barcem village coming under the jurisdiction of the Cuncolim police station.
Initially, the Cuncolim police found themselves in a dilemma how to proceed with the case as the parents said they did not suspect rape of their daughter. Not taking any chances, PI Albuquerque invited NGO headed by Auda Viegas to interrogate the girl and the parents.
It was only at around 10.20 pm that the boy, who was brought to the police station, allegedly told the police that he had sexually abused the girl.
“Both the accused and the victim hail from the remote area of Barcem village. Information reveals that both are related to each other”, PI Albuquerque said adding that further investigation is in progress.
