TERI to Study Goa’s Carrying Capacity Amid Development Concerns

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant informed the Goa Legislative Assembly that the state government has signed an agreement with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) to conduct a detailed study on the carrying capacity of the state. The announcement followed concerns raised by Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao about the pace of development in Goa.

The study will evaluate environmental, infrastructural, and ecological limits to understand how much growth the state can sustain. Authorities expect the report to help guide planning decisions and ensure that development projects do not exceed the state’s capacity. The findings will support efforts to balance economic growth with environmental protection and improve long-term planning for infrastructure, tourism, and urban expansion across Goa.
