PONDA: Fonddekars suffered lot of accidents and experienced many fractures during the last rainy season when roads were either opened for laying of sewerage pipes or because of the potholes. Pondaites now hope that the sewerage work will be completed before the next rainy season and they will be spared of accidents and broken bones they endured for the past three years.
The people of Ponda have requested the concerned authorities to expedite and complete the laying of the sewage pipes for the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) before March 2020 so that the bumpy roads are ready and hot-mixed before the next monsoon arrives.
“We had never seen such worst roads. For the first time in our life we have faced accidents and have been hospitalised for broken bones,” said Umesh Naik, who urged the authorities to complete the roads.
Naik said authorities have restarted digging the roads and urged the Sewerage officials to complete the roads and prevent further mishaps.
Though the government has provided relief by filling the potholes, the roads are not yet hot-mixed in Ponda because of the ongoing sewerage works.
The Pondaites, say sources, are worried that the government is not taking up hot-mixing of roads due to the incomplete sewerage work and have urged the government to complete the roads before the next monsoons.
Though the Sewerage officials say hardly 10 per cent work is pending, however, till date, no completion of work is noticed for the past many months, and fresh digging for construction of sewerage chambers is noticed. According to officials most of work is completed from PMC Office to Tisk, Daag Ponda.
The work on construction of 15 MLD capacity Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) at Kavlem is also progressing. The sewage of Ponda town will be treated at this Plant.
“Sewerage Officials should not dig the roads everywhere at the same time causing hardships to locals. They should complete their work in a particular area then begin digging the road at other places. There should be planning in this work which is not visible,” said Ponda MLA Ravi Naik.
