PANJIM: Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM) has announced that it would boycott and protest all government functions after Revolution Day, June 18, if grants to English medium primary schools are not stopped.
The organization has also slammed the ruling coalition of attempts to disrupt public meetings at six places opposing grants to these schools.
“We have decided to hold a hunger strike at 20 locations in both the districts on June 18 following which, our members will boycott and protest all government functions. Besides the public meetings, this is another attempt to embarrass the government,” RSS Goa Chief Subhash Velingkar said on Tuesday.
BBSM has also charged the government of resorting to “absurd moves” to disrupt meetings held at Mandrem, Sanquelim, Shiroda, Sanguem, Mayem and Curchorem. “Besides the local MLAs, Chief Minister (Laxmikant Parsekar) also made weird attempts to disrupt our meetings such as holding picnics or pilgrim trips to Shirdi for constituency voters, repairs of electrical poles and even delayed handing over the body of a drowned victim to the family. All this was to ensure that people are distanced from attending our public meetings, but we managed to get 3000 to 4000 people,” he said.
Reacting to Parsekar’s interview to a local news channel urging Velingkar to tone down his temper on the issue, the RSS chief said, “These are personal opinion and nothing comes in my way of principles. It should be kept separate.”
