PORVORIM: Tourist Taxi Car Union leader Laximan ‘Bappa’ Korgaonkar was arrested on Saturday for allegedly threatening and restraining a GoaMiles taxi driver near Betim ferry point. Korgaonkar was later released on bail The Goa Miles taxi driver had picked a customer from Candolim and was on his way to drop the customer in Panjim when he was allegedly restrained at Betim by Korgaonkar. Porvorim PI, Vishwesh Karpe informed Herald that the GoaMiles taxi driver, a resident of Margao, Sarfaraz Sheikh was on his way to drop a customer in Panjim. “The GoaMiles driver was booked by a customer to be dropped from Candolim to Panjim on Friday. On reaching Betim he was stopped by Korgaonkar who questioned him as to why he was operating when the others taxi operators were off the road. He also threatened him with dire consequences before leaving the spot. An FIR was registered, he was arrested following all Supreme Court guidelines and later released on bail,” Karpe added.
A complaint was registered at Porvorim Police Station after the complainant informed that he was threatened by Korgaonkar that he would kill him and damage his car.
“I have been arrested on false charges. This strike by the taxi operators in Goa will continue until the GoaMiles taxi aggregator service is scrapped by the government,” Bappa Korgaonkar informed reporters before his arrest.
He has been registered under Sections 341, 506 (ii) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
