Tourist taxies to protest hike in tax

The North Goa Tourist Taxi Owners have decided to protest against the decision of the Transport Department to hike passenger fees from the current Rs 150 to a whopping Rs 5,000, which is on par with the fees or tax of buses.
According to NGTTOA Secretary Vinayak Nanoskar, they had made a representation to the Director of Transport Arun Dessai to reduce the passenger fees or taxes hiked to Rs 2,000, but surprisingly instead of reducing the fares, the Director of Transport has increased it from Rs 2,000 to Rs 5,000.
“We have now decided to come together and have a joint meeting with the representatives of the motorcycle pilots, rickshaw owners, bus owners and all concerned involved in the transportation trade,” said Nanoskar.
“A joint meeting has been convened at TB Cunha Hall, Panjim, on Friday at 10 am to take a joint decision in the matter,” informed Nanoskar.
“We are not going to rest until the matter is amicably sorted out by the Director of Transport, who has been harassing the taxi owners time and again,” claimed Nanoskar.
