PONDA: Fed up with the massive traffic snarls on the Kavlem-Talaulim Road, locals have urged the Electricity Department to expedite the long-drawn out underground power cabling work disrupting the smooth flow of vehicles on the stretch.

Residents of the area told Herald that the workers had dug up the road more than a week ago, but the work has been progressing very slowly, subjecting them to traffic jams. “The road has become very narrow due to the trenches that have been dug here, and more than a week has passed but the cables have not been laid yet. Apart from traffic problems, dust and dry mud is flying everywhere, causing dust pollution,” said a road-user from Undir Bandora. Earlier, the unplanned digging up of the roads had damaged water pipelines at Bandora, Kavlem. Now that problem has been solved, but
the slow pace of work has led to traffic jams on this road, with vehicles lined up for long intervals during rush hour.
The size of road has become so narrow that trucks and buses jostle for space, putting other motorists at risk as well. The locals of Kavlem-Donkhamb said that the Department should deploy more workers and earthmovers to dig up these arterial roads, so the task of laying the cables is completed quickly.
