The fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran has come under renewed pressure after US President Donald Trump accused Tehran of carrying out a drone attack on commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump alleged that Iran launched four “One Way Attack Drones” at ships travelling through the crucial maritime route. According to him, one of the drones struck the upper deck of a large cargo vessel, while the remaining three were intercepted and destroyed by US forces.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran shot at least four One Way Attack Drones at Ships transversing the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump wrote.
He further claimed that one drone “solidly hit” the upper deck of an expensive cargo ship. While the vessel reportedly sustained damage, Trump said it was still able to continue its journey. He also stated that US forces successfully shot down the three remaining drones before they could hit their targets.
Calling the alleged attack a “foolish violation” of the ceasefire agreement, Trump said Iran’s actions had put regional stability at risk despite ongoing diplomatic efforts.
However, Trump did not identify the cargo ship involved or provide details regarding its ownership, nationality, possible casualties, or the extent of the damage. There has also been no immediate confirmation from US military officials, shipping authorities, or Iran regarding the alleged incident.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most strategically important shipping routes, carrying a significant share of global oil exports. Any military escalation in the region is closely watched due to its potential impact on international trade and energy markets.
