Trump Claims Iran Gave US ‘Major Oil and Gas Present’ Amid Strait of Hormuz Crisis

US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran recently gave the United States a “present” worth a “tremendous amount of money,” linking it to developments around the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.

The waterway, a key global oil transit route, has remained largely disrupted since the outbreak of conflict following US-Israeli strikes on February 28, triggering sharp increases in global oil and gas prices.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump described the move as significant but declined to reveal specifics. “They did something yesterday that was amazing… They gave us a present, and the present arrived today. It was a very big present worth a tremendous amount of money,” he said.

The US leader clarified that the “gift” was not connected to Iran’s nuclear programme but instead related to oil and gas, hinting at possible strategic or economic implications as tensions continue in the region.

Trump’s remarks came a day after he delayed a previously stated threat to target Iran’s power infrastructure by five days, opting instead to return to negotiations aimed at ending the conflict. However, Iranian officials have denied participating in any ceasefire-related discussions.

Highlighting optimism over potential diplomatic progress, Trump added that the development signaled the US was “dealing with the right people,” as both sides navigate a possible path toward de-escalation.
