The suspected case of Coronavirus has raised concerns on the tourism front as it is a tourist who has been quarantined pending confirmation of his medical reports.
Travel and Tourism Association has urged the government to set up a desk manned by Goa Medical College at Dabolim airport. Goa, however, does not have direct flights from China where the virus outbreak first occured.
“We are happy to know that the government has constituted a task force that will take measures at the airport and other entry points. Presently we have no flights coming in from China, and as such the threat is very minimum. But perhaps air passengers should be attentive and report any such suspicious cases to authorities at the airport,” TTAG president Savio Messias told Herald.
He added that to implement the suggestion, they would need a desk manned by GMC at the airport as well as some banners at the airport. “TTAG will coordinate with the authorities and discuss precautionary measures if not in place,” he said.
Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat has appealed to Goans not to panic but adopt preventive measures to stay away from the deadly virus. Soon after the news of the suspected case broke out in the evening, Kamat tweeted saying, “Let us not panic. Let us all be alert and careful.”
