CANDOLIM: Two beach shacks located on Candolim Beach were gutted in fire on Saturday afternoon.

According to Pilerne Fire Station, control room received a call at 11.45 am informing two shacks have caught fire on Candolim Beach. Immediately, a team of Pilerne Fire Station with quick response vehicle rushed to the spot. Simultaneously, vehicle from Mapusa Fire Station and Porvorim Fire Station were also called for assistance.
Since the shacks are located on the beach and the road was narrow, the locals helped the fire team to reach the spot through internal roads. Upon reaching the spot, it was found that two beach shacks were at blaze. The fire team immediately started with fire fighting operation and got the fire under control after few hours.
Meanwhile, in the fire, a LPG cylinder also got exploded. However, no casualties were reported. A person sustained minor injuries after a part of cylinder exploded.
The two shacks were completely gutted in fire with all electronic equipment including music system, refrigerators, television, beds, decorative items, liquor and other items getting destroyed.
Shacks owners Hari Bagkar and Santan Fernandes claimed loss of around Rs 60 lakh each. The cause of fire is not yet identified. However, the owners suspects that short circuit through electricity pole located close to the shacks could have led to fire.
While one cylinder was exploded, fire teams managed to move out three more cylinders from both the shacks. The fire teams used seven hoses of water to extinguish the fire.
