Two fires cause loss of Rs one lakh in Mapusa

MAPUSA: The personnel from the Mapusa Fire Department were kept on their toes are as they responded to several fire and emergency services calls from a large area. A short circuit led to a minor fire in two rental rooms near Maruti Temple, Khorlim on Monday morning. The timely intervention by the Mapusa Fire Department helped in extinguishing the fire and spreading further. However there were no injuries reported in this incident. The department has pegged the damage and loss at Rs. 95,000. “After the matter was reported at 9.59 am, the Mapusa Fire Department deputed a team of officials who reached the spot and extinguished the fire,” told an official from the Fire department. 
The second fire incident occurred at 3.59 pm when the Fire department received a call that smoke was spotted emitting from a house near old Mapusa municipal market. While at 4.42 pm another complaint was received regarding a minor fire that occurred on the second floor of a building opposite to Mapusa Urban Bank. However the fire officials were unable to ascertain the exact cause for the fire and estimated the loss at Rs. 10,000.
