The Maina Curtorim police arrested two persons following a warrant of arrest issued against them by the court.
They were later remanded to Judicial custody by the court. As news of the arrests spread in the city, a large number of citizens, who claimed to be victims of money swindling by the duo rushed to the Maina Curtorim police station around noon.
They contended that the duo owed them money after securing a deposit of lakhs of rupees on the promise of giving an ice cream agency. However, they claimed that neither the ice cream agency was provided by the duo nor the money returned back, with the cheques issued by the accused returning back as dishonoured.
In fact, the victims claimed that the amount taken by the accused by way of deposits might be running into around Rs two crore and demanded action against the duo under the law.
One of the victim told newsmen that they have come together to protect their interests as the accused has failed to honour the promise of giving the agency or returning back the deposit ranging from Rs 5-7 lakh.
