VALPOI: Valpoi police has requested the Director of Transport to suspend the route permit of the mini bus, which was involved in an accident at Hivre-Sattari on Monday.
Speaking to Herald, Valpoi Police Inspector Sanjay Dalvi informed that the bus owner had given his vehicle in the hands of an unauthorized person, who was not a regular driver and did not hold a valid driving licence.
“Since the bus owner has endangered the lives of passengers by allowing the unauthorized person to drive the vehicle, both the driver and the owner were arrested and booked under Sections 279, 336, 337, 338 IPC and Section 3, 134(a) (b) 180 and 188 of Motor Vehicle Act,” PI Dalvi informed.
PI Dalvi confirmed that they have written a letter to the Director of Transport recommending suspension of the route permit of the bus. Both the driver and the owner (uncle and nephew), who were arrested were released on bail late Monday evening.
“Such unauthorized driving, which puts lives at risk, will never be tolerated,” warned PI Dalvi and added that the police have already started keeping a strict vigil on bus drivers to avoid such mishaps in future.
It may be recalled that 29 passengers, mostly comprising students, were injured when a speeding bus rammed into a tree before overturning at Deoswada-Hivre, Sattari, on Monday morning. Twenty-four injured passengers were treated at Community Health Centre Valpoi, while the five seriously passengers are being treated at GMC Hospital in Bambolim.
