BELGAUM: Intensifying their agitation, transporters affiliated to the All India Motor Transport Congress will block loading of all essential commodities, including vegetables and milk, to Goa from Tuesday.
The decision was arrived during a meeting of transporters in Belgaum on Monday, which was presided over by Ramappa Malenadu, AIMTC executive body member and vice president of Federation of Karnataka State Lorry Owners and Agents Association.
“On Tuesday, all association members will move to Belgaum market and will prevent vehicles from loading any kind of goods to Goa,” stated Malenadu.
“Our teams will also visit the wholesale vegetable market to stop loading of vegetables to Goa. We will also not allow vehicles of Goa Horticulture Corporation to load vegetables,” added Malenadu.
Accordingly, teams of local transporters under AIMTC will camp at all the exit points to Goa at Ramnagar, Jamboti, Khanapur and Turmuri on the Belgaum-Amboli road.
Meanwhile, discussions between AIMTC and private bus operators to Goa continued till late Monday evening. “Since it is a peak travel season, passengers may be put to a lot of inconvenience, hence we are finding out ways on how bus operators could support our agitation against the entry tax,” AIMTC President Bal Malkit Singh told Herald.
