Vegetables, fruits seized in Vasco during anti-encroachment drive

VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council on Monday seized the vegetables and fruits of vendors who were encroaching on the road at the new vegetable market.

Citizens have made several complaints that the vegetable and fruit vendors at the new vegetable market are encroaching on the road. Despite several warnings from the MMC, the vendors had failed to stop the illegalities.
MMC Chairperson Deepak Naik, market committee chairman Leo Rodrigues and other members made a surprise visit to the new vegetable market on Monday and found that the vegetable and fruit vendors had paid no heed to the MMC’s warnings.
The municipal team seized leafy vegetables, fruits and other materials that were encroaching on the road. Naik said that they would continue the drive against encroachments to bring discipline among the vendors.
Market committee president Rodrigues informed that the MMC would not tolerate any kind of illegalities and that the vegetable and fruit vendors as well as shopkeepers should cooperate with the municipal authorities. He also said that the market committee had directed the municipal workers to confiscate goods that were encroaching on the road after office hours.
“The municipal authorities will continue their drive against encroachments and will also not hesitate to cancel the licences of the vegetable vendors if they continue with their irregularities”, added Rodrigues.
