PONDA: Ponda market is expected to witness a considerable rise in the selling price of vegetables from Monday as outstation vehicles supplying vegetables to Ponda market will be off the road.
Fearing backlash, even some Goan transport vehicles which used to bring vegetables from neighbouring states will stay away from Monday. However, vendors at Ponda market have already brought vegetable stock that would last for 2-3 days.
“Since the last couple of days, the prices were hiked by 5-6 per cent and from Monday prices will rise considerably. The vegetable agents from neighbouring states have informed us about the strike,” informed Bhudhwarpeth Vyapari Sanghatana President Shankar Naik.
“To avoid any untoward incident, our local vehicles also won’t go to bring vegetables from outside the State in view of the strike,” added Naik.
