VASCO: The Velsao-Pale-Issorcim gram sabha demanded action against the vendors selling fish on roadsides opposite the panchayat building. The villagers also raised the issue of completion of road at Kantem. Gram sabha member Roquezinho D’Souza said that despite landlords claiming to have given NOC for road widening, the NOC was not present in the file and hence the road was partially completed.
D’Souza appealed to the land owners to give NOC for completing the road so as to benefit a large number of villagers residing in the area failing which land acquisition for road would be the only option remaining.
After the meeting, the fish vendors complained that despite the market project being completed, customers were not entering the market thereby forcing them to sell fish on roadsides. They claimed that Velsao is fishermen’s village and sought to know how they can be stopped from selling fish in their own village. They said that the panchayat should not deprive them of their livelihood.
Sarpanch Maria Gouveia said that sale of fish along the roadsides was causing obstruction to the motorists and pedestrians and it was for their safety that they were asked to sell the fish inside the market. The village panchayat has now decided to convene another meeting of all stakeholders to decide on the issue of sale of fish on roadsides.
