Vendors Encroaching Outside New Market Cleared After Shopkeepers’ Complaint to MMC

Shop owners from the New Market on Tuesday met Margao Municipal Council (MMC) Chief Officer Madhu Narvekar and City Officer to raise concerns over vendors occupying space outside the market premises and along the footpath. The traders said that these vendors were blocking access to the market, discouraging customers from entering and severely affecting their business.

Following the complaint, MMC Chief Officer Madhu Narvekar conducted an inspection of the area and immediately cleared vendors encroaching on the footpath. Shopkeeper Gopal Naik said that the traders had previously submitted several written complaints to the MMC regarding the issue but no action was taken. “We have now given the MMC eight days to completely clear all vendors sitting outside the market,” Naik said. The council officials have assured that further enforcement measures will be taken to prevent vendors from reoccupying the cleared areas.
