Verna cops bust gang of bike thieves

Two arrested; Six minors sent to State Protective Home

VASCO: Verna Police on Monday busted a gang of bike thieves which was allegedly involved in stealing bikes from Mapusa, Ponda, Belgavi and Verna. 
“Police recovered five bikes from the thieves and sent six minor boys to State Protective Home, allegedly involved in the bike thefts,” informed Verna PI Sandesh Chodankar.
Speaking to Herald, PI Chodankar said five bikes were recovered from the gang which was active in bike thefts recently in Verna area. On Monday, Verna Police recovered three Bajaj Pulsars, KTM Duke and Aprilla scooter.
He informed that during interrogation it came to light that the gang operated in various parts of Goa and also in Belgavi. One motorcycle was stolen from Belgavi, another from Mapusa, one from Ponda and two from Verna area. 
“The cost of the stolen bikes is around Rs 4.7 lakh,” said PI Chodankar.
Verna Police have arrested Suraj Kokate from Velim and Clive Castana from Curtorim. Rest six are minors. When asked whether the same gang was involved in the recent church and temple burglaries, PI Chodankar said the investigation is in progress and they have received vital clues and assured to nab those involved in the burglaries too.
