Voters get EC show cause Revised rolls on Aug 19

PANJIM, JULY 4
In a massive exercise of revision of electoral rolls, the Election Commission (EC) has issued show cause notices to 147011 voters and will publish final (revised) electoral rolls on August 19.
This is a suo motto exercise conducted by the Election Commission to correct errors in electoral rolls since voters are not forthcoming in seeking corrections on their own.
“During last few months the Election Commission has undertaken the task to make corrections after appropriate verification of existing entries on the rolls. All the claims and objections will be disposed off by August 16,” Arvind Bugde, Assistant Chief Electoral Officer told Herald.
While carrying out verifications, it has found that 15066 persons listed as voters are no more alive, 15 non-Indian citizens, 4124 missing, 41713 have shifted elsewhere, and the number of repeated entries was 2135.
About 16,207 could not be verified. The entries will be deleted from the electoral rolls if on re-verification the whereabouts of these voters are not authenticated.
The Election Commission has huge task on its hands as while carrying out revision of electoral rolls, it discovered many wrong entries such as entries having wrong EPIC numbers, wrong photos (5066), wrong relation type (1815). About 18273 entries with wrong spellings and 12006 entries with wrong middle names were detected.
