SANGUEM: About 11 employees employed under Goa Recruitment
Society at Water Resources Department Wadem Sanguem are sore over the
department failure to pay their wages for the last nine months.
The aggrieved workers informed that at the time of their
recruitment by the society which was formed at the initiative of the Chief
Minister Manohar Parrikar, the workers were informed of their services being
regularised by the department with the passage of time. However now a period of
six years have elapsed but there is no sign of regularisation of their
services, claimed the aggrieved workers.

Having financially disabled and left with no means to tend
their families, the aggrieved workers today met the officials of the Water
Resources Department at Pajimol to sort out the issue of non payment of wages
for last nine months.
The Executive Engineer Ramnath along with the Assistant
Engineer Basha denied any fault on their part in the payment of wages to the workers.
The officials informed that their department has been
regularly forwarding the bills of the daily wage workers to the parent
department in Panaji on time. However the bills are returned back by the Panaji
office to Pajimol for lack of funds. We are unable to do anything in the matter
beyond that, informed EE Ramnath.
The officials however lamented the functioning of the Goa
Recruitment Society and urged the need for transferring the services of the
employees employed under the Society elsewhere.
Pradeep Kalekar an employee of the Goa Recruitment Society
informed that he has been working with the society for last six years but there
has been no move by the Society or by the WRD to regularise their services.
However now with no payment coming forth for last over nine months, the workers
are left into lurch and are made to borrow money from friends and family
members for their day to day affairs.
Another worker Bhairo also echoed similar feelings and urged
the officials to immediately sort out the issue of their payment at the
earliest. Bhairo informed that their unpaid salary for the last nine months
amounts to Rs. 382223/- and it is much surprising to note the failure of the
department to pay the meagre amount despite several requests.
