PANJIM: The St Andre MLA Vishnu Wagh took on the PWD department calling it notorious. In the same breath he called it weak having been literally run over by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation. The irony though was that he was speaking what the entrapped minister Sudin Dhavalikar badly wants to but can’t, even as he ridiculed him for being sidelined, as the monolithic GSIDC headed by the Chief Minister, handles all construction and infrastructure projects.
“We are stressing on Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation and PWD is going weak. GSIDC is getting a wedding gown and PWD is not getting even a bikini,” quipped Wagh in a clear reference to PWD minister’s recent controversial remark on banning bikinis on beaches.
“PWD has earned a reputation as notorious department. Government needs to remove the bottlenecks,” he said while speaking during the general discussion on Budget 2014-15 on Wednesday.
The MLA was essentially comparing the number of infrastructural works allotted to GSIDC and PWD. He pointed out that various projects are granted to GSIDC while PWD has been left with meager tasks like cutting bushes, solving drainage issues, etc. Wagh also said that some of GSIDC’s infrastructural works like the Ravindra Bhavan are not up to the mark.
“The PWD in its reply to works in my constituency, listed cleaning of gutters and hiring of tourist vehicles for officers as major works. This is the state of the PWD now,” Wagh added.
