Patients coming to the Therapy Room (OPD 17) and Plaster Room (OPD 8) at the Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim had to face some uncomfortable moments after water rushed inside these rooms on account of the heavy downpour on Monday.
Those who witnessed the water logging that day said the two OPDs are always packed with patients who are brought in wheel chairs and some use crutches to walk. “On Monday those walking with crutches had a tough time because of the water on the floor all over the place,” they mentioned.
They said the water logging proved bad for those with plasters on their legs. “The entry of the water inside these OPDs is made easy as the entrance has a slope. Small brick barriers built with the help of sand on the pathways leading to the OPDs and pharmacy to block the water were of little help,” they said.
On Wednesday, the brick barriers were still in place to take care of the water in case of a downpour. Inquiries with the office of the Assistant Engineer Sub Division II at the GMC revealed the GSIDC had been informed verbally about the water logging the same day. When contacted on his cell phone today AE Sunil M Raikar said he was with the GSIDC people on the spot trying to fix the problem which was caused due to blockage in a drain close to the OPDs. He informed the drain was choked because of construction activities nearby.
